Gateway Casinos unveils brand-new $1.8 million patio at MATCH Chances Courtenay and 50 new jobs

June 21, 2019 – Courtenay, BC Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) is excited to announce the Grand
Opening of its brand-new patio located at MATCH Eatery & Public House at Chances Courtenay on Friday June 21,
2019.
The patio, a $1.8 million investment into the property, is a stylish, outdoor addition to MATCH – with its own bar
area, booth and table seating, warm woods and signature red accents, and outdoor fire tables so that guests can
enjoy the unique Island elements in comfort all year round.
Steve Shorrock, General Manager of Chances Courtenay, Kent Hockley, Regional Manager Vancouver Island, and
Bill Stewart VP Operations CGC Division at Gateway Casinos will be joined by His Honorable Mayor Bob Wells to
officially cut the ribbon and open the patio on Friday afternoon, before the festivities for the public begin that
evening from 6pm.
The patio launch will kick off an entire weekend celebration to kick off the summer, there will be live
entertainment from local favourites including Shotgun Kelly, Trilojay and Baby Jane, plus giveaways featured in
MATCH, as well as gaming promotions on the casino floor from Friday through to Sunday.
Kent Hockley said that MATCH had already become a fantastic addition to the property, creating 50 new jobs for
the area and providing a popular gathering spot for the community since opening in Summer 2018.

“The extension of the restaurant to include the patio is only going to further enhance this experience for our
guests, with a casual yet airy and electric setting – perfect for watching the game and enjoying some great food
with their family and friends,” he added.
“The addition of MATCH and it’s brand-new patio at Chances Courtenay is very much welcomed in our small
community, providing dining and entertainment amenities that appeal to a broad audience all under one roof. We
truly appreciate the partnership that we have with Gateway, and their recent investment into the property shows
their commitment to our city and to providing a world-class entertainment destination for members of, and
visitors to our community,” Mayor Wells stated.

Gateway is also proud to announce that the Chances Courtenay employees have selected the Children’s Wish Foundation as the charity partner for the grand opening. From June 21st – July 31st, portions of the sites’ food and beverage sales will be donated to the foundation in support of the important work they do across the country creating joyful experiences for children coping with a life-threatening illness.
MATCH opened in the summer of 2018 as part of a spectacular $3.5 million renovation of Chances Courtenay. It is Gateway’s most successful signature food and beverage brand.
